Amongst the architectural
highlight of the city is the Oporto Cathedral.
Originating in the 12th century the cathedral has undergone many alterations as the years have gone by, so much so that the Gothic rose is the only original part of the façade.
Before entering the cathedral a visit to the terrace offers fine views over the roof tops of old Oporto.
It also gives an opportunity to admire the grandiose three-storey façade of the Episcopal Palace which unfortunately cannot be viewed from the inside.
Although the Oporto is the city’s largest church its impressiveness is shadowed by the Francisco Church. It boasts a magnificent golden interior which must not be missed by anyone visiting the city.

Oporto’s most popular event is São João
Festival which is held on the 23rd to 24th of June. The biggest
festival on the Oporto calendar is renound for being one of
Europe’s liveliest street parties.
The party is held in Oporto’s town centre and attracts people from all over the country. The city centre make for a stunning background as the music pumps from the main square. Whilst there is still a very strong religious element to the festival, this can sometimes be overshadowed by the party element.
The combination of the city and the extraordinary hospitality and warmth of the Portuguese leaves a lasting impression.
